At last... our last week...

The last week was the best week ever during our SSIP in WESVIARC...

But unfortunately, we have to go back to WESVIARC once in a while... sop that we could comply our requirements...

After all it was all worth it... We had gained enough knowledge and things regarding our stay in WESVIARC...

Last Week

We can now breathe deeply for it was the last week of our internship ,but we are not still finished with the requirements for our clearance. It was still an achievement to know that we stayed there for almost a month. With all the things we learned, I say it was worthwhile.

Our Last Week

May 7

WESVIARC's 48th anniversary celebration started with a mass and parade of employees. There were also peoplefrom other agricultural agencies from different provinces in Region 6.
The program was mainly composed of awarding ceremonies, sportsfest, and intermission numbers.
At lunch, we had a little food fest in the mini "forest" where each of us has a contribution.
We performed our line dance in the afternoon. We were glad we did well.

May 8

I really thought we'll have our tractor driving lessons this day! Instead, we went to the National Seed Quality Control Services building. NSQCS is a sole agency of Department of Agriculture under the Bureau of Plant Industry which certifies seeds.
In the afternoon, we proceeded to the seed health laboratory. This is where seed pathogens are being studied and observed. We made our own samples which contains 25 palay seeds in an evaporating dish with a moistened tissue on its base. After few days, we expect to see pathogens particularly fungi.

May 9

At last! We were able to have driving lessons! Despite the disturbing noise of the tractor's engine, I enjoyed maneuvering the steering wheel and stepping on the pedal.
This has been one of the best activities in WESVIARC.

May 11

This is the last day of our internship. Our group went to the nursery, this time, to learn asexual reproduction of plants. We did a hands-on on grafting mangoes. I only hope my grafted mango will live long.
After that, we went to the seed health laboratory to see our palay seeds. There we saw and viewed the fungi on the electromicroscope.

Last week

May 7

We celebrated the 48th anniversary of WESVIARC. The day started with a mass followed by a parade. After which, a contest was held for the employees of WESVIARC. During the program, we stayed in the conference hall to practice our intermission number for the afternoon. We had our shared lunch in a mini forest. It was not really a good place to eat but it is the only spot left. After which, there was a dance sports participated in by contestants from Iloilo and Antique. They danced samba, rumba and many more and the winner was the pair from Iloilo.

May 8

Our assignment was at the seed laboratory. Ma’am Flerida accompanied us to the seed lab. The assigned lecturer gave us a quiz. We were all shocked because we have no idea about the questions given. After that, we discussed the answers to the quiz. However, Sir noticed that we were quite inactive so he dismissed us to have lunch.

In the afternoon, we returned to the seed lab. The lecturer during our morning session was not around so Sir Vemesio replaced him. We went to the seed health where it is air-conditioned and learned the materials they use in studying seed borne fungi and pathogens. We went back to the conference hall to do something. We placed 25 rice seeds on a three layer of wet filter paper and placed it inside the incubation room.

May 9

It was our group’s turn to drive the tractor. At first sight, it looks complicated but when it was my turn to drive, it was just like driving a bump car. Ma’am Flerida then told us to stay at the nursery. After some time, she dismissed us early.

The last week

Monday

Ok, today is the day where we are going to present our line dance in the national farmers day or something called like that. I came early to practice because chari said we should be there 7:30 but was surprised when there were only a few of us already there. We practiced a little then people started to argue about our formation. So we waited until they had decided the formation and practiced a little again. We then had our lunch at the mini-forest near the entrance which was kinda fun. So we just presented our line dance then we went home hurriedly after the grand applause. Thank you, Thank you..

Wednesday

Oh, its already Wednesday. The yesterday was kind of fun due to the very difficult test which was supposed to be for the college which was given to us at the seed laboratory. Well, at least I got some of the answers right! after the test we learned a thing or two about the questions due to a lecture. In the afternoon we then had a quick laboratory work about fungi. On Wednesday we were finally made to ride the tractor which is very much like a car. Then we were one again dismissed early to rest for the day.

Friday

Finally its the last day! let us jump up and down like monkeys to celebrate! well, im not going to do that but it will be fun watching greg. haha. In friday morning we were thought grafting, budding, marcotting, and something I dont know how to spell. We then went to the seed lab to view our lab work that tuesday under a high-powered microscope. Then we planted medicinal plants to complete the 50 medicinal plant requirement and that was it. GO greggy dance!!!

FRIDAY

we didn't do a lot. we observed the seeds we planted last tuesday, then we went to the nursery to plant our medicinal plants. then, we waited until ma'am flerida dismissed us. it was half-day for that day.

May 11-Friday

Today is the last day of our expected to be last week here in the agency. Our group was assigned to the nursery(not to "HIDE" anymore). We were taught how to perform assexual reproduction on plants. We learned how to perform grafting, marcotting, budding and another way that "the term can't stick to my head". After that, we also had time to start planting our medicinal plants(requirements for our clearances). When noon time came, we were again dismissed early. Another "HALF DAY"... Wuhooo... :)
