April 16, the first day of our SSIP, came like a breeze. It started, and ended fast. Upon arriving in WESVIARC, we had to wait for a few minutes to have someone notice our presence. Finally, at 8 o'clock, their flag ceremony started. The fellow officiating their flag ceremony finally acknowledged our presence and we were led to the conference hall to have this getting-to-know-you thing with the college students. Then, we proceeded to another room where the house rules were read and a short orientation was held. Ma'am Demamay was the one who oriented us, and she will also be our supervisor during our brief stay in WESVIARC. After that, Ma'am Flerida toured us around WESVIARC, under the scorching heat of the sun. But it was all worthwhile, since we got to tour the place we were going to work in for the next 20 days. Ma'am Flerida showed to us the fields where differents varieties of rice were planted for research purposes. She also showed to us the areas where they plant bananas, which are also for research purposes. The tour went on for what seemed like an hour, and then we proceeded to the library to decide whether or not we were going to start on that same day. In the end, Ma'am Flerida decided to dismiss us early because we interns were not yet complete. We then bid Ma'am Flerida goodbye and proceeded to the guardhouse to 'log out'. This ended our first day for our SSIP in WESVIARC.
