The first week

The first week of our ssip was very exciting and we had a lot of activities. We spent a lot of time in the tissue culture lab on the first week. I learned that tissue culture could really help in the prevention of diseases in plants and it could help us multiply plant seedling quickly. It could also help us carry a lot of plants to a certain location with only a little space occupied. We did some hands on training on the tissue culture of bananas and we enjoyed it. The supervisor always reminded us to use sterile equipment, to sterilize our hands, use sterilized water, etc. We also helped make fruit bags and we packed the mangoes on the mango trees so that they wont be eaten by fruit flies. On friday we had a lecture on vegetables and i certainly learned a lot about vegetable production especially in handling them carefully after harvest. Our first week was very fun and we were dismissed early after we finished our tasks.
