First Week

The first 40 hours of our Summer Science Internship Program in the Western Visayas Agricultural Research Center has already been accomplished.

1st day. We were introduced to Ma'am Flerida. She will be the one who will attend to us during our stay there in WESVIARC. We attended a meeting and we were told everything about WESVIARC and what the agency does. We were also told to elect our officers then take a tour around the wide area. We were dismissed before the clock struck twelve.

2nd day. We were lectured on tissue culture. The people in the laboratory told us what tissue culture is and its uses. Then they demonstrated to us how the medium, which is used in the tissue culture process, was made.

3rd day. It was quite the same with the second day. We were lectured on the different types of weeds and how to identify each of them. In the afternoon, they demonstrated the process after the making of the medium. We were taught how to cut the sucker of the banana and how to prepare the solution of water and bleach.

4th day. The whole afternoon, we were there inside the laboratory and were taught to do EVERY process involved in the tissue culture process like the multiplication and the rooting.

5th day. A lecture was held about “Vegetables” and the “Postharvest Handling of Vegetables”.

40 hours down, 120 more to go.
